Fenland Furniture
Flimsy Works collaborated with artist and material scientist Georgemma Hunt to design a collection of prototype stools for the Wildlife Trust and as part of a Summer School for STORE Projects.
Based in the Fens at Ramsey Heights, the project explored the use of wetland materials, including coppiced willow and heat-compressed wetland fibre boards. As an ode to paludiculture - the cultivation of crops on rewetted peatland - the project investigated how regenerative land practices can inform modes of making.
The stools were built and adapted by a students. As part of the process, we experimented with making our own particle boards, using a heat press to test different colours and configurations of wetland fibres. We also debarked and prepared the willow legs for use as feet and backrests - both to protect the stools from the damp ground and to give each piece a distinctive character.
The pieces will be exhibited as part of a wider showcase on innovation in biobased materials in 2026.
